Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
Issued by Red Hat
The RHCE (EX294) is the mid-level Red Hat certification and a prerequisite for RHCA (Red Hat Certified Architect). Like all Red Hat exams, it is 100% performance-based — a 4-hour live lab with real tasks and no multiple-choice questions. RHCE validates the ability to automate RHEL environments using Ansible, a skill in enormous demand as enterprises scale IT operations. RHCE holders consistently command 25–40% salary premiums over RHCSA-only peers.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Still have questions? Our counsellors are happy to help.
RHCSA is not a mandatory prerequisite to sit EX294, but Red Hat strongly recommends it and in practice, RHCE assumes deep RHEL administration skills. Ansible playbooks manage RHEL resources — users, services, storage, SELinux, networking — and if you are not comfortable with these on the CLI, you will struggle with the exam tasks. We recommend completing RHCSA first.
